NAAD, in line with its vision of “keeping alive the tradition” is organising a Kathak Dance festival in its pure classical form in memory of Pt. Jailalji a well known Kathak exponent & doyen of the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak. Such a dance festival in its pure classical form is happening for the first time in UK.

A rare opportunity to watch the performance of 8 of the finest UK based Kathak dancers with live musicians. A unique event featuring more than 20 artists on one platform. Dancers from all key Kathak Gharanas namely Jaipur, Lucknow & Banaras Gharanas will be performing in this festival.

An evening of new Kathak choreographic works featuring “… a host of Golden Daffodils…” an exquisite interpretation of Wordsworth’s immortal work through narrative Kathak.

Oxford based Kathak dancer-choreographer Anuradha Chaturvedi brings together an evening of enchanting Kathak works in a jubilant celebration of music, dance, poetry and literature. In a unique experimentation with narrative Kathak, William Wordsworth’s immortal poetry Daffodils is rendered dynamically through dance to the improvisation and narration of Oxford based musician Malcolm Atkins in “…a host of Golden Daffodils…”.
Framed with more traditional Kathak composition, this evening of exquisite works present a rare taste of both conventional and experimental narratives integrated seamlessly with intricate footwork patterns, technical nuances and sweeping physical movements.

Kathak is a north Indian classical dance form well known for its lighthing fast footwork executed on intricate rhythm patterns, graceful bodyline and highly refined narrative aspect.
Classes are suitable for both Children (7 years and above) and Adults.
Cost £6.50/hr
