Danube Tango Meeting - Budapest April / May 2009

Edited: Mon, 16 Mar 2009

Dear All,

Let me invite you to Budapest, Hungary to the very first meeting of Central European tangueros.

The Central Europe has a different taste to it. If you have ever been to Prague, Vienna, Ljubljana or any other historical city of this region, you will know what I mean. Our history, our culture, our foods, our thinking, and our way of life are all so typical of Central Eastern Europe. I do believe that our Argentine tango is also typical and has a special taste to it. Come and discover it in Budapest!

You will find superb teachers, orchestras and DJs - all from this region - fantastic venues, and last but not least a very friendly tango community.

Please check our homepage for details:

http://www.budapesttango.com/

Hope to see you in Budapest!

Lindy Hoppers needed for Video Shoot, London, 14 March

Edited: Tue, 10 Mar 2009

Frankie Manning Fancy seeing yourself on You Tube? Want to send a birthday greeting to Lindy Hop legend Frankie Manning?

We want to shoot a couple of promotional You Tube clips outdoors in the centre of London for the London Swing Dance Society and Club Dance Holidays, plus a special Birthday tribute which will be sent to Frankie Manning who is celebrating his 95th Birthday in New York this May.

We need:

*100s of Lindy Hoppers of all levels from beginners to advanced.

* People who can film the event with their own HD camera and are happy to send us the footage for us to edit into one final clip.

* A few volunteers who can help with the coordination of the filming, i.e. runners.

We are making these videos on no budget but in return we would offer our heartfelt thanks for making this happen plus a half price entrance to Stompin on Monday 16th March at the 100 Club for everyone who takes part.

Not essential, but it would be really useful if you attended the Tuesday Intermediate classes at Wild Times this week where we will be teaching some of the moves we plan to use in the clip. We also plan to film all the dancers doing a Birthday Shim Sham for Frankie Manning.

If you would like to take part or feel you can help please email Kirsty at swinguk@zetnet.co.uk with Promo Video in the subject line by Friday 13th March, in order that we know how many people will be coming on the day and have your names listed on door at Stompin for your discount.

Where: South Molton Street, London (near Bond Street tube) - exact meeting location to be confirmed - watch out for further emails!

When: Saturday 14th March 09

Time: Arrive by 8.30am ready for filming at 9.45am (Filming should be finished by 10.30am)

Costumes: Please wear normal everyday clothes

For more info about Frankie Manning's Birthday Week please see the web at:

Vote for Cross Country British Country Music Awards

Edited: Mon, 09 Mar 2009

I just wanted to invite you all to vote in the cross country music awards! You may or may not know about this award show. It's held once a year at Fort San Antone, Lytham St. Annes. Voting is in five categories: Best Male, Best Female, Best Duo, Best Band, Best Entertainer; and I think there are other categories such as best song, best cover song etc, I'm not sure. But if any of you would like to vote for your favourite artiste, here is the link:

www.crosscountrymagazine.co.uk/nominations/nominations.htm

You can either vote online (each category has to be filled in) or you can telephone, the number is on the voting page, or you can copy the page loads of times and get people to fill it in, collect them back in and post them to the Cross Country Magazine.

Thank you to everybody

Katie Rhodes

Top 10 Line Dances of Clubs from around the UK - February 2009

Edited: Sun, 08 Mar 2009

The Dance Factory UK I have decided to collate a chart compiled of the Top 10 dances of clubs/classes from around the UK and have asked numerous instructors if they would like to be part of this new venture.

This input should be sent to me once a month; I will collate it together to publish on our website and public forums. The most voted dances can be from any genre of music, at any level and by any choreographer.

All I would need is an email once a month, preferably by the last day of the month with a chart to include the name of the dance, the track of music, the singer/s and the name/s of the choreographer/s and I will put it all together in one final chart.

If you are interested in being part of this new venture please just send me the information and I will include it in my survey. Please note for what I think is obvious reasons our classes are not included in this collation.

New Beginner's Linedance: Bad Guy

Edited: Tue, 03 Mar 2009

Caths Kickers I have recently choreographed a beginner dance to Toby Keith's track: "that don't make me a bad guy", from the album of the same name. If anyone would like a word document, please e-mail me privately and I will send it.

I appreciate that Gaye Teather has also written a beginner and intermediate dance to the same music, but I would still be grateful if you could give my little dance a go and provide me with some
feedback. I e-mailed Gaye yesterday before sending this e-mail.

It was first aired last night at class and was very well received.

Happy dancing, ciao for now, Cat

Line Dances taught, reviewed or danced in Diana Ward's San Francisco Bay Area Classes

Edited: Sun, 01 Mar 2009

Issues by Maggie Gallagher to Issues by The Saturdays, dance is already being done on the bay area floors, I think I need a couple more weeks for it to flow for me.

Island Girl by Peter & Alison to Island Girl by Dr. Victor & The Rasta Rebels, really cute little lower intermediate dance with some different moves taught it to my night class this past week will be teaching it to the daytime group next week.

It Keeps Hurtin' Since You've Gone by Peter Thisjssen, to It keeps Right on Hurtin by Billy Joe Royal, I taught this dance to my Friday morning group they love Country Music and we delighted to get to dance to this music, it was a big thumbs up some of them had a little trouble with the last eight counts but we worked thru them..

Raise Me UP by Evelyn Khinoo to You Rise me UP by Jos Groban, beautiful music and a very well written dance by our very own Evelyn Khinoo from the Bay Area, Choreographer, Instructor & DJ we think she has created a hit.

JJ's Cha Cha by JV and Jan Hanway to She Never Lets it Go to Her Heart by Tim McGraw, fabulous music with some interesting combinations of steps, by the Tell me 'bout it duo.

2 Hearts, 1 Love by Karla & Paul Dornstedt to A Love Like this by Dan Fogelberg, this is another night club two step, I think perhaps it was just too many on top of Raise me up, this one just didn't get a warm fuzzy reception, we usually love to dance The Dornstedt's dances, maybe we will revisit this dance at a later date.

Dances Reviewed/danced:  Tango Cha, Tell me 'bout it, My Next Love, Raise me up, Issues, Oklahoma Wind, Like a Dream, Am I, Looking Back, Guantamera, Sting Me, Moonlight Kiss, A Cowboy & a Dancer, Begin the Beguine, Crazy Foot Mambo, Turn Down the lights, Swing M Swing, Bossy
Boots, Mama Said, Moonlight Kiss, Snowbird
