This was the fourth consecutive year that England has been represented at the Championships which featured over 3000 tap dancers from 33 countries including Canada, USA, China and host country Germany.

Head coach and Guinness World Record Breaker, Jo Scanlan commented “After just four months of preparations the Tap Attack England Team achieved excellent results, including 30 medals, 9 trophies, and a world title for Matthew Hill in the Junior Male category. Other stand out results include silver medal in the Adult Small Groups, bronze medals in the Adult formation and Junior Duo’s and Trio’s”.

The team are a true representation of England with dancers travelling up to 4 hours to attend training sessions. The team have had a busy year seeing them reach the live semi finals for series 2 of Got to Dance and making their US debut in “United We Tap” in Boston.

View TapHeart American Tap Masterclass with Miller and Ben on DanceWeb DanceWeb

Tap Hart Large If you can't go to New York to go to an American Tap Class - let TapHeart bring New York to you!

On Sunday the 13th of March at the London Studio Centre in Kings Cross, London there will be a one day Master Class with Avi Miller and Ofer Ben - creators of the Miller and Ben Tap Shoe, founders of 'Tradition in Tap', Teachers of tap dance at the Broadway Dance Center, NYC, and all round 'Crazy Tappers!'

They 'team-teach' their classes together in their fun style and should not be missed! This is their first workshop in the UK and TapHeart would like to make this a yearly event - especially as American Tap is becoming more popular in the UK with organisations such as the ISTD sliding their syllabus work to have more of an American feel.

Discounts apply if you book the whole day and further discounts apply if you are a full time student.

This is on the same weekend as the 'Move it' dance event at Olympia - so go to 'Move it' earlier in the weekend but save the Sunday for this rare Tap event.

Ever Tried Appalachian Dance?

View Ever Tried Appalachian Dance? on DanceWeb DanceWeb

Raise the Dust Appalachian Dancers If the answer’s “No”, now’s your chance to give it a go. During November, borders based Appalachian Dance Group ‘Raise the Dust’, are running a series of free beginners’ dance workshops throughout Shropshire. In the current economic climate anything that’s free is a bonus and Appalachian dance is great fun to learn too. The dance style hails from the Appalachian Mountains of the USA and is a percussive form of dance using tap shoes that is performed to traditional fiddle music.

Raise the Dust have been dancing together for many years giving performances and running workshops around the country. Leader Clare Simpson admits that the offer of free dance workshops is not entirely altruistic: “We are always on the lookout for new members, and it would be great if some of the people attending the workshops might like to join us regularly”.

Anyone over 16, male or female, is welcome to come and have a go. All that’s required is enthusiasm, a love of dance, comfortable clothing, and hard soled or tap shoes. The Workshops will run in different locations throughout the county on Saturdays.

For information on dates, venues and times of the workshops visit www.raisethedust.org.uk , or email lizzie@raisethedust.org.uk or phone Clare on 01743 249106.
