Ever Tried Appalachian Dance?

Raise the Dust Appalachian Dancers If the answer’s “No”, now’s your chance to give it a go. During November, borders based Appalachian Dance Group ‘Raise the Dust’, are running a series of free beginners’ dance workshops throughout Shropshire. In the current economic climate anything that’s free is a bonus and Appalachian dance is great fun to learn too. The dance style hails from the Appalachian Mountains of the USA and is a percussive form of dance using tap shoes that is performed to traditional fiddle music.

Raise the Dust have been dancing together for many years giving performances and running workshops around the country. Leader Clare Simpson admits that the offer of free dance workshops is not entirely altruistic: “We are always on the lookout for new members, and it would be great if some of the people attending the workshops might like to join us regularly”.

Anyone over 16, male or female, is welcome to come and have a go. All that’s required is enthusiasm, a love of dance, comfortable clothing, and hard soled or tap shoes. The Workshops will run in different locations throughout the county on Saturdays.

For information on dates, venues and times of the workshops visit www.raisethedust.org.uk , or email lizzie@raisethedust.org.uk or phone Clare on 01743 249106.
