Scottish Dance Theatre 2009 UK Tour

Edited: Fri, 27 Feb 2009

SDT's 2009 tour premiers two new works and bring Hofesh Shechter's electrifying DOG to venues who have not already seen it.

Ina Christel Johannessen, one of Norway's most renowned award winning choreographers, creates her first work with the company, featuring 5 mannequins, 5 characters and 5 ghosts in an evocative setting by Ina's long-term designer Kathrine Tolo.

Artistic Director, Janet Smith's new work I Thought I Heard Somebody Calling - a world out of step, time and place - unfolds in a luminous nocternal setting created by international lighting designer, Bruno Poet.
Also, at selected venues, The Long and the Short of it. A gem of a duet, choreographed and performed by SDT's Caroline Bowditch and Tom Pritchard.

SDT Interactive will be running in Glasgow and Stirling and is a chance to see how dance theatre is created plus a full performance of a work from the current season.

Eternal Light Dance Tour 2009

Edited: Wed, 25 Feb 2009

Eternal Light is a new collaboration by Mark Baldwin and British composer Howard Goodall. This powerful piece is set to an elegiac and uplifting new score and is sung live by professional choirs. Sumptuous designs from Production Designer Michael Howells (Constant Speed, Galliano, Dior and film), feature sparkling crystals donated by Swarovski, and a striking headdress design from fashion milliner Stephen Jones.

Eternal Light is a heartfelt remembrance of many things: a lost summer's day, the destruction of the forests, a life looking back, a memory. Happiness and sadness are personified in a dying bird or a reflection on youth - what has been and is now gone, held in our hearts forever.

Eternal Light commissioned by Sadler's Wells
Eternal Light: A Requiem commissioned by Mark Stephenson on behalf of London Musici.

The music, Eternal Light: A Requiem is available on CD. Click here to read the lyrics.

English Youth Ballet 2009 Auditions

Edited: Wed, 18 Feb 2009

The English Youth Ballet is now well-established for the production of full length classical ballets in the regional theatres of the UK. The Company uses 100 young dancers chosen by audition from within an 80-100 mile radius of the theatre in the area, therefore giving young ballet dancers the opportunity to experience the creative process from rehearsal to performance in our exciting productions of The Nutcracker, Coppelia or The Sleeping Beauty.

Auditions take place either on stage at a regional theatre or in a school in the town where performances will take place and last for 90/105 minutes.

Junior Audition Age 8-11yrs . Senior Audition Age 12-18yrs.

THE AUDITION EXPERIENCE
EYB auditions take the form of a ballet class. No dance has to be especially prepared.

Students are expected to wear what they would wear for their ballet classes/ballet exams. We see the auditionees all together and all students must attend at the start time.

The Audition Registration is £10 payable to English Youth Ballet. It is advisable to send in the form and register in advance to save administration time although we do accept registration forms on the audition day.

The audition is designed to be an experience in itself and we like parents to watch when the audition venue and space allows this. EYB is about performance and this starts with the audition when we look for young dancers who love their dancing and who would benefit from classes, rehearsals and participating in EYB ballet performances.

Two English Youth Ballet Scholarships are awarded at each audition and four part scholarships.

For audition packs and a registration form for a specific venue please Email misslewis@englishyouthballet.co.uk

THE PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE
The fee for the Performance Course 2009 is £375 payable to English Youth Ballet in full or by arrangement and in advance prior to the first rehearsal/casting day date.

This is inclusive of all costume and production costs (not ballet/character shoes). Three rehearsals take place simultaneously and are always preceded by a ballet class. There is a 20% reduction for 2 or 3 siblings taking part.

For all information regarding times, dates and venues please email Janet Lewis or ring Miss Lewis on 01689 856747.
